Also, if anyone has been to any of the countries that I'm going to (Israel, Nepal, Australia, New Zealand and Japan) and has any tips about places to visit, things to do, good and cheap accommodation, etc. please let me know.

I recommend buying/making a silk sleeping bag liner. They are warm, light, have very little volume, and have multiple traveling uses. They can be had very cheaply on ebay too. . .
ReplyDeleteOh! And don't forget when packing that the circle contains the most area. Roll everything up to optimize your packing space. :)
ReplyDeleteDid you buy a train pass for Japan? You can only buy these abroad, through travel agencies. It makes traveling by train much much cheaper.
ReplyDeleteWhile in Tokyo I'd recommend staying one night in a "love hotel". They're not expensive, and it's quite the cultural experience :) Check them out here:

Happy travels!!!

ummmm.... well i'd never go anywhere without a big scarf -pashmina type means that you can cover your head/shoulders/legs if you want to visit a temple in india, it acts as a blanket and a pillow when you're on the train in japan and if you're in an aussie desert and need to pee voila privacy to shield your *#! if you don't want the kangaroos watching ;D Also flip flops mean no foot rot and easy to slip on and off anywhere, and now that I've been to asia I know next time to not bother taking anything but skirts - and YES, you can hike in a skirt - tuck it in! i can't wait to hear more bout your new year* kly
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestions! I've taken them on board and am sure they'll prove very handy.
ReplyDeleteLove hotels sound intriguing, but wouldn't I need a 'love'?
I'm off tomorrow. I'm somewhere between massively excited and still can't quite believe it!
Other Katheryn is very wise. Silk sleeping bag liners, if they are a good shade of royal blue, also make for great 'I am the Virgin Mary' opportunities. Check me out, with my helpful advice!
