My piece-of-trash bike
It's now two weeks since I bought my bike and since then I've had to take it to be repaired TEN times. Six punctures, one broken pedal (seriously, how crappy does a pedal need to be to break?) and three times to get different repair guys to tune up the shoddy work done first time round. And not even that has diminished my enthusiasm for biking.

It occurs to me that the fault may have been in the selection of said bike in the first place...
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how confusing it is shopping here! I went with Vivek who did most of the talking. I tried a few and went with the only one that fit in my price range, which was pretty low (I didn't want to spend more than 5000 rps, which is approximately 45 pounds), the reason being that Sapna and Rabi are willing to let me use their son's very nice, very expensive mountain biking for proper rides but don't want me to take it out anywhere that it will be left unattended, so I just needed a bike for around town. I guess it also didn't occur to me that a bike could be that bad. We checked the gears and the brakes and that seemed enough. I've got new tubes for the tires and new pedals, so the situation is much improved. Now if only I could get the handle bars to stay aligned! In retrospect, I should have gone with an Indian as opposed to a Chinese made bike but I didn't know that at the time.
ReplyDeleteBut the best thing about the bike is that I've already sold it for when I leave.
